3rd post of the day

est Friends Forever!

Alright, gang. I have a question for you.

What makes someone one of your best friends? Is it the number of inside jokes together? What number? Is it how often you text each other? How many texts? Is it how much time you spend together in a certain period? Or is it something else entirely?

For me, I came up with this idea: (I'm very picky about who I consider my best friends, so this works for me, but might not work for you.)

Yes, I did come up with something original for my blog, as opposed to shamelessly ripping off someone else.

In reality, though, I think I only have (by this definition) a max of maaaybe five best friends. An alternate way of thinking would be "how many people would you tell?" but for me, at least, I would tell more people than would tell me, which is how I decided which direction to pick.

How many best friends do you have? How did you decide who your best friends were? How many best friends would you have if you went by my method?

And I really do want answers to this question. If you comment here, it counts as two comments in the charity giveaway! (OMGoodness! 2 comments=2 entries + 2/9 of the way to another dollar donated! Woohoo!)

I'm a comment junkie. Anything to do to win this comment contest and donations for Ethan.

I have SEVERAL best friends. It isn't based on the number of times I talk or text them, or that we do something. It is based on how we mutually feel about each other, treat each other, and the history we have. I have some besties that I talk to maybe once a month, but out of sheer history together, we are besties.

Make sense?

I second Melissa's comment. I have several best friends - they know who they are and I would bend over backward for them. It is a matter of respect and mutual love :)

I have 2 best friends -- my SIL and my momma. I have a few more close friends. One might consider them best friend, but for me, a best friend is someone you don't have to catch up on your past with. Though by that definition, it would take years and years for a person to become a bestie.

6: 2 in CA, 2 in northern UT, and 2 in southern UT.

Despite having half a dozen "best friends," though, there is no way I could put a definition to the term. It's just one of those things that depends on the experiences I share with the person, you know?

man that's a hard question...i would say that as i get older my definition of "best friend" becomes more and more blurry. i guess i have a few...

speaking of which, tib is one of them...and i love her kid. PS, i donated to her ride...a slick $100 for that matter. thanks for what you're doing to help!

by your definition I am not sure that I am anyone's best friend. I myself have many best friends. Each can be defined differently since they entered my life at different points. I married my bestest friend though.

M-Cat and Tib sent me to support JDF.

Best friends are determined by experience shared among other things.

Hmm, my BFFs just happen because we're non judgmental, lazy, funny people.

I have two "best" friends. I'm lucky to have them in my life.

The Boob Nazi sent me over- Walk for Autism is my charity of choice!

Over here from the Boob Nazi/"How Could You Not" blog

I believe in Breast Cancer Awareness http://ww5.komen.org/ but I love helping other charities too (Boob Nazi supports the Walk for Autism).

Great post about best friends! I love your original quote! It makes total sense.

i hate the term best friends...maybe because i have had so many so called best friends screw me over. i have really close and great friends but to me the term best friends sounds juvenile...no offense..thats just how i feel for me...
i would have more best friends by your description than what i actually would consider BF...
but my really good friends i have 4

The Boob Nazi sent me over here. And I have 7 best friends. But 3 of them are blood relations...so do they count?

I've been thinking about this, and I'm pretty sure I agree with you. My friend C got her mission call and personally called me and talked to me about it. That meant a lot to me! And we're still (at least on my side) best friends.

Similarly, if ever I were to get married, my best friends (I can think of one or two) are those that I would be sure to tell first.

My best friend and I will go months without talking - but she is always the first one that I call with big news.

I'm here from The Boob Nazi's site! :)

Hi!

I'm here from The Boob Nazi's page too.

I think, by that reasoning i'd have 2 best friends, but i don't think of one of them as too much of a friend.

How i choose? I can actually feel good in just being "me" with my best friend.

p.s. am i allowed to include myself in there, coz i'd most likely fit the bill best?

The Boob Nazi sent me here :) I'm supporting her Walk for Autism.

I don't have one single "best" friend, but I do have quite a few very, very close ones. They'd definitely be the ones I'd call first with big news!!

umm, I have 2 BFFs... one in CA and one here in Utah... met both of them in college... I tell them EVERYTHING.... they know more about me than my own parents or my roommate (who is also a family member).

Based on your definition... I guess I have lots of "best friends" that I would tell personally if I were getting married (seeing as it hasn't happened yet, I assume I would contact people personally before posting it on facebook for all the world to see!)

Commenting here b/c of Melissa/Tib for JDRF/Ethan

I have about three best friends. By your standard I have about 20, though!!! I think a best friend is someone with whom you can be your best and worst self, and they love you even more.

I am doing the Autism walk with the boob Nazi so I will comment and send it all her way.

I have two besties that I have had since high school and my hubby who is my besty. I think a best friend is someone who you are open with. Who you can just laugh and laugh and laugh with, but at the same time tell them everything.
